Berry Pure is an independent iOS app built by a small team with one job: read the ingredient label so you do not have to. Point your camera at any label and the app flags ultra-processed markers, scores the food from 1 to 10, and suggests cleaner swaps.
Everything we publish, in the app and on this site, follows the same four rules:
Every additive verdict starts from what EFSA and the FDA have actually ruled. If a substance is banned, restricted or carries a mandatory warning label anywhere, we say so and link to the ruling.
Beyond regulators we cite peer-reviewed research: the NOVA classification, the Southampton study, the BMJ umbrella review on ultra-processed food. If the evidence is still emerging, we label it worth watching, not dangerous.
Plenty of additives are perfectly safe and still only ever appear in industrial food. We keep those two judgements separate: a safety verdict, and an honest note when something is simply a marker of heavy processing.
We do not do detox myths, chemical-free marketing or fringe nutrition claims. An occasional ultra-processed food will not hurt you. What matters is knowing how much of your kitchen is made of them.
Every page that makes a health claim lists its sources at the bottom. If you spot something we got wrong, tell us at [email protected] and we will check it against the evidence and fix it.
